Test rode a cbr 1000 saturday, loved it. I ride a 2003 bmw k1200rs. I want more power and lighter bike. been riding since I was 16, 27 years now. I thought the cbr was comfortable. how is the cbr for mostly 100-150 mile days. maybe twice a year a trip of 400 mile days. I also looked at a k1200s $19,000, though I can afford it I just cant justify the cost. Any info would be helpful.

I go 110 miles round trip to work and back. I would gladly take it in 5 days a week weather permitting. I feel it in my hands a bit by the end of 55 miles - well, a little before that - but wouldn't trade it for anything. Usually I'm too busy watching things wizz by to care about any discomfort, as slight as it is. The power to weight ratio on 1 liter bikes is phenominal, so I'd go for it. Welcome to the boards too!

hi keets,
it just depends on what you are looking for if comfort for a 400 mile trip then the 1k is not for you. if you are looking for a 400 mile trip that is a blast then the 1k is. i have a 2003 GOLDWING for the long hauls but in all fairness most of my trips on the 1k average 150 to 200 miles iam a little tired but i still have a grin from ear to ear when i get off . but iam 53 year young to so that is a big difference to hope this helps.

I think 100-150 mile day trips are no problem but at 400 miles I start thinking about the trailer. Of course if I would ever ride 400 miles it would most likely be one way so I would have to pack so much stuff it wouldn't be possible to take it all on a sport bike.

I've recently converted from an F4i to a 1000RR. A big noticeable difference is the lack of comfort on the 1000RR. Supposedly they made the seat more comfortable in the new model, but you couldn't make me a believer. 60 miles is about all I can do without needing to get off the seat. If you were even to consider a long trip you'd probably want to look into an after market seat.

Keets,

I guess it depends on you. Yesterday I went out for 7 hours and did a 600KM (around 400 miles) . 200 miles out and 200 mile back through some great curvy, country roads....I was pretty tired when I got back (mostly mentally I think) ...but for "once in a while" longer treks the bike is fine.
