well since I just got my F4i yesterday, biggest thing on my mind is getting it insured(well and x-fering the plates and title), last bike I had was my 95 YZF600 and I paid $240/yr for liability only w/ 2 tix on my record(which due to b.s. IL law, I had a 1 month suspension b/c I was b/w the age of 18-20 and tix were w/i 2yrs of each other.... could've fought it, but didn't think it would be a big deal), a minor fender bender that I was at fault(no citation issued), and the crash w/ the YZF that was the other driver's fault(same situation as the originator of this thread, only thankfully I sustained just a bruised tail-bone and a busted bike which his insurance footed the bill for bike, med bills, and even the laptop that was in my backpack)....

after checking Progressive for a quote, it asked if there were any accidents or citations w/i 35 months, since my record has been clean and I haven't had any major accidents or violations(DUI, reckless driving, etc) would I be able to get decent rates for full coverage???

also it asked about accidents that you weren't at fault, would that even affect the rates?

bottom line is that since I am 24 and 9 months away from the big 2-5 which is supposed to be the big insurance discount age, I might just stick to liability for this season and wait until next riding season to upgrade to full, I just don't want to, with my luck, have the bike totalled and be out the money I paid or even worse... have some big medical bills

and as far as medical insurance, since I'm self-employed, all I have is a catastrophe plan through my parents that would cover me in the event of a major illness or accident, but not sure how it would cover in the case of a bike wreck.... thankfully the guy I got the bike from is also self-employed and has a guy he can refer me to for health insurance, so i'll see what he says and post on here what he quotes to see if it's a reasonable rate.

ok so w/ 50/150/100 liability and $1000 ded. for collision it's $648/yr(StateFarm) for me which will go down in 9 months when I turn 25.... so for now I'll be paying monthly at about $55/month and possibly shopping around to see if any other co's can offer for less....

now it's time to see what medical plans are available, supposed to get quotes later for Aetna, BC-BS, Humana, and Unicare

damn who do you have?

I know the "quote" from progressive was like $1700/yr for me, but I'm sure if I talked to someone in person that did a record check through the DMV that it wouldn't quite be that bad....

if you have a clean record at that age, even on a 1k you still shouldn't pay more than $1k/yr especially w/ a $1k deductible.

Hello everyone, I'm new to the site and wanted to say hello. I actually signed up last year but have just now been able to check the site out. I also want to say how IMPORTANT insurance is. I like r6fiend felt that I always rode carefully and looked out for other drivers. But all the precautions that I took still didn't stop a driver who was in a hurry to make a turn from causing an accident involving me. Now I have titanium pins and screws in my right leg (hip to my knee). I also have huge medical and physical therapy bills. I wish I had signed up for this site over a year ago and I may have avoided not having insurance. So, if you're riding please have insurance. Stay safe this 2008 riding season.

yea i'm in the process of getting a PPO plan from Blue-Cross Blue Shield IL w/ $500ded, 80/20 pmts, $30 office visits w/ $5million lifetime coverage for $126/month... still awaiting the review of my medical history, but thankfully the weather is crap this week so no riding for me until I get this plan locked in.... still no excuse to not use that thing my helmet protects to keep me accident free, but as everyone has stated and even as I experienced first-hand w/ my YZF600... cagers don't care until it's too late... thankfully w/ the YZF only the bike was broken and the only hospital bills I had were an ambulance ride, xray, and follow-up visit... all of which idiot cager's insurance covered...
