The insulation provided by the manufacturer is sufficient as long as it is installed correctly. When I install these units I will add extra insulation for my customers piece of mind. Most of the melting compalints I have heard come from people who installed the undertail and did not install a power commander. Without a good solid fuel map it can be very easy to melt your plastics because your bike was tuned with the factory exhaust. Now the exhaust has opened up and the bike will run hotter unless the air fuel curve is properly mapped. Unless you plan on racing the bike I would not bother with the Bandwidth commander. In fact if your going to race it stay away form the Hotbodies undertail exhaust. Bottom line ask the dealer to install extra insulation if you are not planning on running a power commander or Install a power commander to optimize the map which will control the heat issues and disable or remove the intake flapper door. Here is a picture of what your undertail should look like with proper insulation coverage. ( Before exhaust can is installed ) If you have any other question please ask. Mike CTSmoto Thumbnail Image

OK Quick question, I ride all year in the UK so it can get quite wet sometimes i just wondered what influence more water in the air intake system would make,(if i removed the air flapper) thats the problem i can see happening for me. What do you think?

ORIGINAL: desmodromic I hear these systems are ridiculously loud. What's the skinny? I have heard from many sources that the only reason Honda uses the intake flapper is because without it the bike doesn't meet the noise restrictions set forth by the EPA or whatever BS organization that dicates acceptable noise levels at 3800 rpms blah blah blah..... Basically removing the intake flapper door is supposed to make the bike louder at idle and through the RPM range up to 6000 rpms where the door would be fully open anyway. I have tuned soooooo many bikes by now that honestly I can't hear the difference anymore. The bikes I have removed or disbaled the door on the owners claim the bike is louder but they like the sound. Bike definatly breathes better in the lower rpms and has a better throttle response. Mike CTSmoto

Actually I was referring to the volume of the Hotbodies exhaust. How loud are they?

What do you think? Anubis, To be honest I am no expert. I don't think you will have a problem for a couple of reasons. First at some point in your ride the door is wide open anyway. Second most manufacturers don't use a door on their ram air intakes. If there was a problem with water or moisture I thnk we all would have heard something by now. I would be interested to see how your bike runs with the door removed in the cooler air. I am always looking for ways to keep my bike cooler out here. The last few days here ( Sacramento, California ) the temp has topped 106 deg F (41c). Toooooo hot. Mike CTSmoto

duh... sorry i was zoning out there. Yeah they are freaking loud. I think it is the loudest exhuast I have ever heard on a sport bike short of an open header. Idle is not too bad but leaving for work in the morning might piss off the neighbors Mike CTSmoto

CTS, do you have a map for the hotbodies? If so you wouldnt care to share would you? I have a PC3 and the closest Dyno shop is 70 miles from me.

Your bike should realy be tuned on a dyno to get the most out of your PCIII. I can provide you with a map to use as a good baseline until you can get it dyno tuned. I use this map as a starting point and then each bike is fine tuned from this map. I would prefer not to post it. E-mail me and I will send you a copy. Mike CTSmoto

ORIGINAL: QuikSilver Hotbodies exhaust is gay........Be orignial.......don't sport the trendy shit........ Ouch, be orignial, how about original (spell check, hello). Whats original, a KTM 125, now that is GAY. Sorry, should we get a pipe everyone else is buying. Happen to like the look of hotbodies, think it is original. Trendy, looks more like moto GP to me then the other aftermarket pipes. Don't hate cause it looks good. First, you have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to the spell check of QuikSilver. Narrow minded and uncultured. Second, the KTM 125 is a badass little dirtbike and I decided to throw on my SM wheels from my 450SX to see how it would run against the 250 4 strokes. Third, Hotbodies exhaust is 100% squid. The Hotbodies exhaust looks nothing like MotoGP. Fourth, I know you're slow and don't belong on that 1000rr. Spend some money on track days or riding schools and not the cosmetic crap. Frame sliders, brake/clutch lines and rear sets is something you should look into buying. My 2 cents. QuiK

I second that. I just recently installed on my 2006 1000RR. You may want to invest in a good set of ear plugs. However, I grin from ear to ear whenever I start my bike up and give it a few revs. Got nothing but compliments in the looks department too.

I don't care what exhaust I put on my bike, it is not going to make me a better rider. I am just not that good. Congrats to those of you that can really tell and use the extra 5 ponies. But I bought my exhaust for the sound, looks and price (no, it is not a Hotbodies) Go with what you like. Some people like track days, others like 1/4 miles, and a lot of us simply like to ride. Accessorize accordingly. You are not a squid just because your bike "looks nothing like MotoGP".
