hot bodies under tail exhaust

repsolman -> hot bodies under tail exhaust (5/15/2005 9:11:55 PM)

has anybody put a hotbodies undertail exhaust on a 05' 1000
i did and the bottom end is terrible.
anything under 4000 rpm's it feels like it is loading up
i put on a power commander and it did nothing to help the problem
so i'm going to get a custom map made for it, this week
looks great just alot of $'s to get to work. ( i hope it will work)

I have installed 4 of these undertail units from hot bodies and it needs to be done correctly or forget about it.

First things first. You will need to remove the intake flapper on the air box or at least disable it. When the bike breathes better at idle I have found you gain nearly 4 foot lbs of torq.

Second the bike must be correctly mapped in order to get the performance with the new can. The power commander is a good start but personally I prefer the bandwith commander and tuning it on a Dyno is a must.

If you try to install this on your own without doing the intake mod or properly tuning with power commander or bandwith commander the bike will run like crap.

Looks odd -- I'd like to see one in person.

I have one on my Repsol but it was never installed that clean. How did you get it so flush against the rear light without screws? Plus I have a heat build up problem. It started to melt the plastic from the heat. What do you think that might be? I am looking into Thermo Tec exhaust wrap to cool it down a bit. Have you had heat problems yet? How many miles on your Hotbodies? Please let me know. Thanks moto

Havent yet had it tuned but mine seems to be running Ok, just a little hotter then it should. I have the power commander and need to get a custom map.

Did you ever get that custom map? Did it help much? What kinda gains did you see and do you have any pics?

Ouch, be orignial, how about original (spell check, hello). Whats original, a KTM 125, now that is GAY. Sorry, should we get a pipe everyone else is buying. Happen to like the look of hotbodies, think it is original. Trendy, looks more like moto GP to me then the other aftermarket pipes. Don't hate cause it looks good.

For what its worth....................

I think it looks ACE!!!!! But the first thing i thought of was heat build up, its gotta be practical too. Mines still got the standard can on and that can get dam hot sometimes!! How do you find the heat build up? Any problems?

reponek -> RE: hot bodies under tail exhaust (6/29/2005 11:26:46 AM)

Heat build up is bad, if you notice in the above picture where the exhaust is touching the plastic, he will soon learn that it will melt and he will need to shave it a bit. I wrapped my can and my pipe. Cooled down a little. I also cut the stock heat shield and placed it on top of the can, that also seems to help. The heat build up is still just a butt hair to much still, I need to get it mapped and throw a little more heat shield tape on the plastic where it meets at the bottom. Still looks good though.

motogpfanatic -> RE: hot bodies under tail exhaust (6/29/2005 11:33:38 AM)

hey CTSmoto nice job on the undertail.[;)] whats a bandwith commander, never heard of those and also whats in the intake mod?

CTSmoto -> RE: hot bodies under tail exhaust (7/6/2005 2:17:27 AM)

Bandwidth commander is made by dynojet. I can fine tune the map for each bike with it. Its the next best thing to tuning your bike on a Dyno. Dyno tuning ( Load tuning ) is the best way.

You can disable the intake flapper door so that it remains open all of the time. The stock configuration has the door closed at idle and the the engine is breathing through to very small holes. As the RPMs increase the door opens. By disabling the flapper door vac. you can force the door to remain open all the time. This is a very simple fix. If you want in 15minutes you can remove the flapper door and the vac. for a more permanant fix. This is a link to disable the flapper. http://www.rogueracing.org/flap.htm

BTW the undertail exhaust in the picture is still running with no problems. Now has 6200 miles on it and no melting. Where the exhaust is touching the undertail is just fine. If the unit is installed and tuned properly it is an amazing product. For those sceptics out there this particular bike has a cell phone charger in the small trunk space above the new exhaust and the owner leaves his cell phone in there on long rides. Gets warm but not nearly as warm as the stock system.

Weatherman -> RE: hot bodies under tail exhaust (7/17/2005 5:23:05 PM)

Thinking about getting the hot bodies exhaust. But all the talk of melting has got me worried. I would have my dealer install it. Should I be telling him to wrap the exhaust or something? and which would give it more hp the bandwidth commander or the power comander.?
